Run Proposal Example

Job:

Find and apprehend a demolition expert on behalf of The Spider all while possibly saving one of the few good cops in the process.

Legwork:

The J – Jonathan Ragno - The Spider on behalf of Cloak

T1 - Seems to own an antique store in Everett

T3 - Rumours of a connection to the Gianelli Family

T6 - Straight up made man. He is off limits and if anyone touches him they are dead a million times over. Apparently he is an infobroker too so if he likes you he might be willing to sell

Contacts

Hey this guy is a made man. Treat him with respect, he has been out of the game for a while but he is rebuilding his power base.

He has his web everywhere, if its worth knowing he knows it. Especially in the underworld scene

Apparently his kid was beaten up and the guys ended up dead or armless. One of them works for him now, big orc guy.

Tin-eye – Explosives Expert - The target

T1 - Apparently its some corporation that reverse searches images.

T3 - There is some bomber that the police are after apparently who has killed a bunch of people

T6 - This guy is one of the most wanted bombers around. He has a number of signatures that have been spotted at deaths of some pretty powerful people. His signature is using a timer commlink with a hardwired button as a backup.

Oh yeah this guy does a ton of work with corp types, mainly explosives though.

This guy is brutal, he will kill a busload of kids if it means he will get his target. Rumour has it there is an entire revenge group made up of the kids parents looking for him and willing to pay top dollar for his capture.

This guy always has a failsafe with his bombs. His signature is to use a commlink on a timer with no wireless connection.

Run:

Method One Example:

The runners meet in Everett at an Antiques store. The J is the Spider Jonathan Ragno who is acting on behalf of the ex-shadowrunner Cloak. He requests that the team find and apprehend a saboteur who goes by the street name Tin-eye. Word is he is in Seattle after working abroad for the past couple years and The Spider wants him found and brought to him alive and intact. The runners can rough him up but he expects him in a stable condition and not requiring serious medical attention.

He will offer the team 12,000 nuyen initially but can be convinced to go up to 14,000 with partial payment upfront if they roll well enough. He says if the runners prove themselves capable they may do further business in future in good faith.

Jonathan Ragno will provide the team a lead and if they wish they may pursue it which will lead them to Tin-eye's prostitute who can be bribed with drugs or money to provide info on where she usually gets called out to when he is in town.

When the team arrives at the place it is a safe-house (B Zone Area) that is empty but provides clues as to Tin-eyes target and where he could be.

		Clues: Example 1, Example 2, Example 3

It is the an Ork KE Detective James Broden. Tin-eye has secured his family to a small bomb that will begin a five minute countdown when the detective enters his home. He will then be told to hook himself up to inject the biomonitor that is wired to the bomb and kill himself. If he doesn't do this his family will die in five minutes in a "gas leak" which will be covered up by the KE superior who hired Tin-eye.

The team will have the opportunity to arrive on the scene and:

  • Disarm the bomb (R3-5 Anti-tamper Devices depending on skill level) if they have the demolitions skill
  • Decker could wire into the bomb (DR 4-5 Commlink Depending on decker skill pools) and attempt to disarm it from within.
  • The team could also do an escape artist + Intuition/Logic Test (3, 1 minute) for each member.

The Bomb is a 20DV liquid explosive bomb with an optical detonator in the form of a R4-5 commlink and 3-5 Anti-tamper devices. I am going to use the optional rules for disarm if thats ok which is to remove all the anti tamper and the device is deactivated. So essentially 3-5 demolitions checks with a dice pool of 3-5 for resistance which should allow even those with rudimentary knowledge to disarm it.

If the team fails to disarm the bomb the detective will kill himself to stop the bomb. If the team physically removes the detective from the premises he will fight to get back in and save them and a broken detective will be left without a family.

If the team attempts to interfere Hazel and Tin-eye will attempt to stop the team while Hazel maintains a dome of silence around the area to avoid drawing attention. If anything is noticed and someone calls KE the response will be delayed again by the KE superior.

Once it seems like they are losing Hazel and Mercier will bail and Tin-eye will surrender. He will offer the team 16-18k nuyen to just let him go. No retribution no nothing.

The team may then return Tin-eye to The Spider or they may release them.

Method Two Example:

Meet

Mr.Johnson: Is a 60 year old human man, heavily Italian, calm, collected, heavily tanned, looks to have been a farm worker and wears suit pants and vest with the sleeves of his shirt rolled up.

Location: Everett antique store

Bodyguards PR 4: Ork, single cyberhand, wears slacks and a button up shirt. On meeting the runners he will have a apron and greet the runners as if he runs the location.

Job details: 12k to 14k nuyen depending on negotiation, percentage upfront, will also be available as contact. Job is to retrieve a assassin named Tin-eye, the johnson is holding back the information of the target being a bomber. He also has a lead the runners can follow up.

Scene 1: Workplace of the Prostitute

Madame: Old, crone, tries to sell the runners on the various men and women she has.

Jenny(The prostitute): Middle aged, snappy, dressed as you would expect, bliss addict.

Location: My Fair Lady(Whorehouse), North Downtown, C zone

What the runners can learn:

Through the Madame they will be able to find out information from the madame to contact Tin-eye as well as the prostitute he visits. By bribing the prostitute with drugs or money they may be able to gain the location of a safehouse that Tin-Eye has them dropped off at.

Scene transition:

With the safehouse location extracted from the prostitute the runners may proceed to Tin-eyes safehouse. With his basic contact details the runners may be able to hack his commlink and trace the commcode to the safehouse

Scene 2: Tin-eyes safehouse

Location: Central Downtown, B zone

Location Description: A single story stone building with barred windows. There is a camera on each of the two doors that is wired to the inside of the building. Inside it is rather cluttered with bomb parts scattered around. There is also a planning trideo projector set up which the runners can study to learn some information.

What the runners can learn:

Tin-eye isn’t at the safehouse whenever the runners arrive Schematics of a bomb Tin-eye will use later in the run That a KE Detective, James Broden is Tin-eyes current target and that the bombing will occur shortly.

Scene Transition:

To track down James Broden and head to his home for the climax

Scene 3: Defusing a Bomb

Location: Central Downtown, A zone

Location Description: A double story suburban home. It is the usual white picket fence with the brick building and wooden slatted upper floor. There are multiple windows with motion sensors on each as well as cameras on most main entrances.

OPFOR:

  • Tin-Eye(Target): PR3 Orc with an smg and pistol. Also has a dead man's switch to the family. Hiding upstairs with his bodyguard. Missing fingers and has a single cybereye.
  • Tina(Bodyguard): PR5 Elf. Sword, SMG and armoured jacket. Pretty but half her face is horribly burnt. Also hiding upstairs with Tin-eye
  • James Broden: Family is being held hostage and a bomb is attached to them.

Challenges:

  • Disarm the bomb (R3-5 Anti-tamper Devices depending on skill level) if they have the demolitions skill.

decker could direct connect into the bomb (DR 4-5 Commlink Depending on decker skill pools) and attempt to disarm it from within.

  • The team could also do an escape artist + Intuition/Logic Test (3, 1 minute) for each of the three family members.

Possible Results of player actions:

  • The Bomb is a 20DV liquid explosive bomb with an optical detonator in the form of a R4-5 commlink and 3-5 Anti-tamper devices. The explosion is likely to kill any non soak muscles.
  • If the runners are too slow, James Broden may kill himself to try and disarm the bomb per instructions from Tin-eye.
  • The Bomb is disarmed and James Broden is alive. He owes the runners for saving them all.
  • Tin-eye is captured by the runners.
  • Tin-eye escapes and goes to ground making it near impossible for the runners to find him.

Scene Transition:

They head to the antique store for the handoff of Tin-eye to The Spider.

Handoff

Mr.Johnson: Is a 60 year old human man, heavily Italian, calm, collected, heavily tanned, looks to have been a farm worker and wears suit pants and vest with the sleeves of his shirt rolled up.

Location: Everett antique store

Bodyguards PR 4: Ork, single cyberhand, wears slacks and a button up shirt. On meeting the runners he will have a apron and greet the runners as if he runs the location.

The team will be directed to perform the hand off in the garage behind the antique store and will be paid via credstick the remainder of their pay after Tin-eye has been sighted by the Spider

Let Tin-eye go – 16,000-18,000 + 1 Karma + 1 Notoriety / 3GMP to pick up Tin-eye 4/1

Save KE Detective Family - +2 Karma / 3 GMP pick up James Broden 2/3

Fallout:

There shouldn't be any major meta ramifications.

If the team saves the family and detective he will become even more fanatical in taking down the corrupt cops in KE (Good luck to him). The KE Superior may be removed from the force or demoted based on the evidence the detective collected.

Cloak will find out more information about who ordered the hit on his family and become even more loyal to The Spider.

If the team releases Tin-eye The Spider will be greatly displeased and will probably not choose these runners in future for taskings.

Misc:

Tin-eye may tell the KE Superior that a shadowrunner team may be open to work in future if he is released and he may make an appearance as a Johnson to deal with other troublemakers.

Also of note regarding James Broden as a contact he will be helpful in providing information about corrupt KE cops, gangs or syndicates however it will always have a cop spin on things. Also he won't provide info about innocent people unless convinced adequately that they are actually criminals. If he is tricked into providing info the player will lose loyalty if something happens to that person.
